“I never knew of a morning in Africa when I woke up that I was not happy.”
Ernest Hemingway
Botswana is a magical land, it offers the best experience of safari game drive in Africa thanks at the excellent game abundance and a huge diversity of flora.
The country offers natural scenery of a rare beauty, this area of Southern Africa is a natural paradise, the vast territory of Botswana is formed by a plateau rising to 1,000 meters above sea level and is largely occupied, about 70%, by the Kalahari desert.
Botswana is situated in the center of southern Africa with Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe as its neighbours.
In Botswana the scenarios are incredible and very different from one another, we go from the endless expanses of salt of the pan, to the beds of dry lakes, to the swamps of the Okavango Delta, to the great rivers like the Chobe, to the desert sand dunes of the Kalahari.
The Kalahari Desert form the majority of Botswana, this predominance of arid land makes a remarkable phenomenon, the name Kalahari is derived from the Tswana word Kgala, meaning the great thirst.
The Kalahari Desert is the largest unbroken stretch in the world and at its core the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, a vast flat expanse of scrub-covered fossil dunes interspersed with ancient river valleys.
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is one of the biggest protected areas in Africa, its diverse wildlife and wonderful scenery offering an amazing contrast to the East of the country; this area is home to a fascinating spectrum of very different plants and animals that have successfully adapted to living in such a harsh environment.
The Kalahari Desert is also home of the largest salt pans in the world, the Makgadikgadi Pans, a breathtaking sigh, a vast sea of white that was once the center of a huge lake that evaporated thousand years ago.
In the eastern part of the country, the Okavango Delta is a wondrous wetland within a desert, an iconic place with a huge diversity of fauna and flora.
The Okavango Delta, a World Heritage Site, is rightly considered one of the most incredible wilderness sanctuaries in Africa.
The Okavango Delta is one of the largest inland delta systems in the world, an area of 16.000 sq km filled with water channels, lagoons and islands.
What makes this area truly remarkable is that it is a wetland paradise located deep within the arid Kalahari Desert, receiving its water from rain falling over a thousand kilometers away.
Each year floodwater flow from their catchment areas in the moist central African highlands over 1000 km away into the Delta to create the miracle that is the Okavango.
This unique area sustains a huge diversity of fauna and flora, so that game viewing is excellent right through the year.
In the north-east of the country, the Chobe National Park and Linyanti reserves are renowned for their predators and large concentrations of game.
The Linyanti area consists of four large private reserves, Selinda, Linyanti, Kwando and the Chobe Enclave, and due to its remoteness, the Linyanti area is a gorgeous, unspoiled region of waterways and lagoons, riverine forests, huge trees and palm tree islands. Game viewing is superlative in both the wet and dry season, and the birding is exceptional, thousands of exotic birds migrate to this region during the green season.
Seasonal zebra and elephant migrations add further drama and the Linyanti expanse is the hunting ground for healthy numbers of predators.
Northern Botswana’s famous Chobe National Park is a must-see wildlife destination, the concentration of wildlife here is simply astonishing especially for its large herds of elephants and buffalos, that congregate along the Chobe River
The magnificent area of Chobe National Park offers unparalleled wildlife encounters, the Savute Marsh area and the Chobe Riverfront are world famous for their exciting game drive.
